Sterling Silver Lady's Mug - Antique Georgian (1728)

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George II English sterling silver lady's mug by Gabriel Sleath; an addition to our Georgian silverware collection

Description

This exceptional antique early George II sterling silver mug has a plain baluster shaped form onto a circular domed spreading foot.

The surface of this antique silver mug is plain and embellished with the contemporary engraved crest of a human head couped at the shoulders, surmounted with a coronet.

The upper and lower portions are encircled with tooled decorated borders to the rims.

This Georgian silver mug is fitted with an impressive S scroll handle with a plain thumbpiece ornamented with the contemporary engraved initials 'EMR'.

This impressive antique silver mug was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Gabriel Sleath.

Such small Georgian tankards are becoming increasingly difficult to locate; period tankards of this size would have been crafted for a lady.

Condition

This lady's antique Georgian silver mug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

There are some natural fire marks in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the mug are very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
