------------------

The "Biserka" factory started operating in 1946 as a craft cooperative, and in 1958 it was named after the little girl of one of the workers. In the beginning, they made jute dolls filled with straw, but from the beginning of the sixties, with the advent of vinyl (PVC), the factory completely reoriented itself to dolls made of this modern material. All dolls were made by hand, by casting in molds, and then hand-painted with subsequent interventions. Since 1963, "Pearl" was the only factory outside the USA that had an official license from Walt Disney's production house to produce characters from his stories and cartoons. In addition to the factory of toys, balls and board games "Biserka" from Zagreb, the most famous children's toy factories in Yugoslavia were also "Jugoplastika" from Split, "25 maj" from Labin, "Mehanotehnika" from Izola and the toy factory "Tik-tik" from Krapina.
