Amazing Beautiful antique and rare bronze medal of Jean De La Fontaine 1621-1695.
He was a French poet and fabulist. His great work, "Fables", written in three parts, from 1668 to 1694, followed the style of the Greek author Aesop, who spoke of human vanity, stupidity and aggressiveness through animals. La Fontaine is considered the father of the modern fable. On the nature of the fable he declared, "It is a painting in which we can find our own portrait." Some fables written and rewritten by him are The Hare and the Turtle, The Man, The Stork and the Fox, The Child and the Mule, The Lion and the Mouse, The Oak and the Reed, the Fox and the Grape.
The medal was made by the sculptor Jean Vernon.
Has 6 cm  diameter, and 3 mm  thickness. Weighs : 92 Grams.
