20 Used Japanese Highway Cards.

All cards are used. No duplication.

Condition: used, abrasions, few with stains and soiling. Backs tend to oxidize with time.

 

Highway cards were used to pay highway tolls in Japan, and were issued in variety of denominations: 1000, 3000, 5200, 10500, 32500, 58000 yen, as well as cards with amounts selected by the user. 

 

They were first issued in the late 1980s, and were used until about 2010. 

 

Highway cards, and related Telephone cards, and Fumi (Postal) cards, and myriad of transportation cards, most famous at the time was JR  Orange card, as well as various businesses and attractions, were a great way for people not to carry excess cash, or coins with them.  Because they are colorful, often bearing great designs, and were made in limited numbers they quickly became collector items. 

Cards are magnetic, and additionally balance was printed on the back.
