Description
This exceptional antique 18th century Irish sterling silver cup has a plain bell-shaped form to a circular domed, spreading foot.
The surface of the cup is encircled with an applied girdle.
The body is embellished to one side with the contemporary engraved initials 'MD' surmounted with the crest of an arm holding an arrow, and to the other side a crest depicting out of a coronet a crescent with further scrolling initials.
This impressive antique cup is fitted with two impressive cast sterling silver opposing scroll handles, each with a scrolling leaf decorated thumbpieces and pendant drop style ornamentation to the upper socket.
This exceptional vessel is supported by a plain cast sterling silver circular domed foot.
ConditionThis 18th century Irish sterling silver cup is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the cup are all very clear.
