The New Adventure Continues

Hawk The Slayer is a 1980 sword and sorcery adventure film directed by Terry Marcel and starring John Terry and Jack Palance. The story follows two warring brothers who fight to gain control of a magical sword called the Mindsword. Brave warrior, the titular Hawk, assembles a small force of fighters to help them rid the land of a powerful and devious enemy. The film has since developed a cult following.

Now Rebellion presents the all-new comic-book sequel to the cult 1980 sword & sorcery movie. Hawk's deepest fears have been confirmed - the resurrected Voltan along with other dark forces have returned to plague the land and only he stands any chance of stopping them! With the Mindsword in hand and reunited with the warrior giant, Gort and the skilled Elfin Bowman Crow, as well as some new comrades... they battle the nightmarish horrors of the Forest of Weir.

Story/Spoilers:

In issue #1, “Watch for Me in the Night”, A few years have passed since Hawk and his trusty band of warriors defeated the evil wizard Voltan, but Hawk is still uneasy, fearing that the Dark wizards have only temporarily disappeared and are due to return. Once again, Hawk must assemble a team of warriors to confront the returning evil. The Mindsword may be the key to saving the world, but is it also responsible for the resurgence of these ungodly forces?

Next in issue #2, “The Last of Their Kind”, Having sought out the giant Gort, the two warriors meet at Roy’s tavern where they encounter an eyeless maggot-ridden servant of “The Dark One”. Using the Mindsword, Hawk is able to defeat the enemy and both he and Gort set out to find the unnamed witch previously aided them and consult her about this new danger. They are joined on the journey by Wain, a Bard who wishes to compose a song about their new adventure.

Meanwhile, in the Holy Fortress at Dainsford the site of Hawk’s final showdown with Voltan - a young cleaner named Bella agrees to take some food to a mysterious patient. Introducing himself as Crow - an Elfin archer and part of Hawk’s cadre - he reveals that the church has kept him captive for two years and asks Bella to help him escape and warn Hawk of the evil which still holds influence over the land.

Hawk’s meeting with the witch confirms his deepest fears, but then yet more eyeless warriors attack. As the tide turns against our heroes, a hail of arrows fells the eyeless monstrosities. Crow (accompanied by Bella), reunites with his comrades and together they are ready to seek out this new threat...

Next in issue #3, “The Peace of the Dead”, Years after the defeat of Voltan, Hawk is still wary of the return of the Black Wizards and he confides his worries with Gort when they reunite. As if to reaffirm his dark thoughts they are attacked by an eyeless servant of ‘The Dark One’, and though the maggot ridden enemy is easily defeated the assault spurs on Hawk to seek out the Witch who is able corroborate Hawk’s fears about the return of the Black Wizards.

During the meeting with the witch more eyeless warriors attack Hawk and Gort, but the maggot-men are cut down by a hail of arrows from Crow. The Elfin archer had been held captive for two years at the Holy Fortress of Dainsford. He had only managed to escape after enlisting the help of Bella. A young cleaner but one who Crow recognizes as the daughter of Ranulf.

The Table of Five gathers once more, Hawk, Gort, Crow, the Witch, Bella, are now joined by a young bard, Wain, who wishes to turn their adventure into a new song. They are guided by the Witch to a portal, the source of the foulness despoiling the land, and there they search for a pool in which they can find the souls of evil men and glean their intentions.

But it is here that Hawk’s deepest fear is confirmed – that Voltan has returned!

Next in issue #4, “The Call of My Race”, Welcome to the penultimate issue of Hawk The Slayer. Finally, the truth has been revealed - the Mindstone was birthed in evil, property of the Black Wizards. Now, deep in the bowels of Dainsford, Hawk and his companions must face off against the wizards as Voltan and his army of the damned reveal their true plans. With the odds stacked against them, will all of the heroes manage to come out of this battle alive?

Finally in issue #5, “Die by The Sword”, The Dark Lords are no more! Voltan’s masterplan has come close to fruition. With a massacre about to commence at the holy fortress, souring all magic there forever, Hawk and his depleted band of warriors are the only ones left who can stop the evil from destroying the land. Brother must face brother for control of the Mindsword - can Hawk defeat Voltan for a final time.
