I have been playing horns for 67 years...collecting and restoring vintage trumpets and cornets, producing custom finishes, and building custom horns for 56 years. For your consideration, here is a New Old Stock 2015 P. Mauriat Model 71 that is in need of a new owner. Introduced in 2010, the 700 series of trumpets garnered kudos from just about anyone who played them at the various trade shows. IMHO, P. Mauriat is the top dog of the Taiwanese manufacturers that include Jupiter, Carol Brass, and Phaeton. In 2014 I purchased a Model 720 that still remains one of my favorite trumpets. A few years ago a friend of mine closed his music shop and afforded me the opportunity to purchase any or all of his pro stock at dealer cost. Included with the horns I chose, were two Model 71's. I'm keeping one and selling the other. The retail price for a 71S (silver plated) is $2,869. with a discount price of $2,329. from every seller including Amazon. I am offering this brand new Model 71 for the dealer price of $1,699...a savings of $630. off the discount price.
A few years after the intro of the 700 series, Mauriat redesigned their model lineup. Built on the same solid craftsmanship and modern technological expertise that characterized the 700 series, the new series offers even more gratifying and comfortable experience for professional musicians. The PMT-71 supports a scintillating and brassier sound in yellow brass and is wonderfully suited to most musical applications. The solid core of sound so popular with the 700 series can still be found in this new iteration. Adding to the enhanced design of the 71: Redesigned and repositioned braces; round, smooth style finger buttons as well as top and bottom valve caps. The round tuning slide is matched with a single brace to offer the perfect synergy of balance, optimal resistance and secure slotting throughout the entire range. The redesigned bell taper provides tremendous control and projection while enhancing the timbre to suit any musical palate. Lastly, the lightweight aluminum valve stems provide lightning fast valve action.
This PMT-71 is a fairly lightweight 2 lb. - 5.4 oz. trumpet that will accommodate virtually any music style and acoustic venue. The trumpet has a clear and resonant tone that is easily controlled...its sound is BIG, BOLD, centered and focused. It is a VERY free and open blowing horn and loves to be piloted in the stratosphere where it develops a sophisticated brighter edge with complex overtones...a serious "scream machine"! This horn has great intonation...the low register is not flat, and is very resonant. The 5th harmonic is great, and so is the upper register intonation. Slots are superb. Responsive and flexible, the PMT-71 makes a great jazz horn, but with the right mouthpiece will back off nicely for those soft ballads. The trumpet comes with a P. Mauriat 3C mouthpiece that has a very small #32 throat (the industry standard throat size is a much larger #27). Therefore, different mouthpieces dramatically alter the tone of this awesome instrument...a Schilke 14A4A is a superb choice.
Mechanically and cosmetically, this trumpet is in brand new condition with warranty. It was not a demo, but was handled by my friend when showing it to potential customers...he had yet another 71 that he used for demo purposes, therefore I did not purchase it...just the two new unplayed models. I tend to be overly critical and as accurate as possible when describing my horns, so that no one receives any "surprises".
