Batteries do work for the clock portion, but not for the radio portion (one hidden terminal might need cleaning, or a something got disconnected inside). Radio works fine with included power adapter.

Rear side has some mild staining around battery covers, as though from an old battery leakage (though the visible battery terminals for clock and radio portions are clean). Has been cleaned.
