Commemorative medal
"City of Heroes - Kharkiv".

The commemorative medal is dedicated to the heroic, proud, unconquered Kharkiv, which, from the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine, has been subjected to mass terror: bombings, shelling, destruction of residential buildings, infrastructure, human losses in the city and the entire region, but resists the enemy. This is a city of heroes who proved to the whole world that they endured: babies are born under the echoes of explosions, educational processes take place, the economy of the city adapts to military conditions, and many entrepreneurs have changed their activities and put them on military rails, cultural figures, artists, poets, writers, activists - everyone is fighting on their own front. The lightning counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region fulfilled its strategic goal - it changed the course of the war and became one of the first significant successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the way to the complete restoration of the territorial integrity of our state.
On the obverse side of the medal there is the inscription 2022/UKRAINE at the top, the small State Coat of Arms of Ukraine at the bottom, the composition in the center: and against the background of a stylized map of the city, lines from Lina Kostenko’s historical novel “Berestechko”: DID I REALLY BELIEVE IN VICTORY/IN SUCH A HARD, UNEQUAL STRUGGLE ?/YES, I BELIEVED. FIRST OF ALL I BELIEVED – GOD./AND I BELIEVED PEOPLE. TO PEOPLE AND YOURSELF./LINA KOSTENKO; a collage of the city's sights: Kharkiv's Kobzar - a monument to Taras Shevchenko, one of the best examples of monumental art (left), a UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Derzhprom building, erected in the 1920s in the style constructivism, the gazebo-fountain "Mirror stream" - one of the modern symbols of the city; logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (on the left above the monument).
On the reverse of the medal, on a mirror background, there is the inscription - KHARKIV, in which the letter I is presented in the form of a candle / CITY OF HEROES, which divides the field of the medal into two parts, united by a common idea: in the upper part of the composition, buildings battered and mutilated by shells and bombs are depicted, in the lower one is a stylized panorama of the city with its historical monuments and the Polovtsian stone women from Mount Kremenets near Izyum, monuments of sacred art (IX-XIII centuries).
