RARE Italian Porcelain E. Tezza Figurine - Girl With A Cat #162.

7 1/4" tall.

Ebay shipping has increased costs. I usually double box, use poly stuffing around delicate figurines, as well as shipping peanuts in my shipping.  I do not make money on the shipping costs.

Great condition despite age and fragility!
Please look at the pictures as they are part of the description.
I've had a lovely collection of Italian figurines all these years in my curio cabinets.  I started collecting in the 1970's.  They are all unique, funny, and beautifully created.

Emilio Tezza was born in Vicenza, Italy in 1937. He studied art in Rome, Florence and Vicenza. He has worked in several media-painting, bronze and in ceramic sculpture. He has been designated a "Master Craftsman" in Italy, a rare honor. Each Tezza figurine is signed and registered. No molds are used, each model is individually crafted, and all differ in some way.

E. Tezza figurines are coveted for their great sense of humor and whimsical nature.

The figures, made by hand without molds or inner frames, have a brooding, sadly humor-out quality to them. Their spidery elongated figures are vaguely reminiscent of El Greco. Their mood is Gothic. Their colors, by a rare process, run together to give a fluid life-like appearance to the characters they portray.

E. Tezza had to work against time as he slowly build up each figure, starting with the feet and gradually working up to the head, with its separate strands of ruffled ceramic hair.

The porcelain, which hardens if allowed to stand, is applied in quick slashes by the artist's fingers. The colors, as many as 25 for each figurine, are applied separately between firings but in such a fashion that when the figure is complete, green runs into blue runs into purple. In conventional porcelain figures, most of which are made by use of molds, the color of the face, the garment and the body are as sharply defined as the parts of the figure the color.

NOTE:  THESE WONDERFUL ONE OF A KIND ART FIGURINES ARE EXTREMELY FRAGILE.  I HAVE MOVED WITH THEM MANY TIMES AND I PACK THEM WITH BATTING USED TO PUT IN PILLOWS.  I'VE NEVER BROKEN ONE BY DOING THIS FOR MOVING THEM.  WHEN YOU UNPACK AND UNWRAP YOUR FIGURINE, BE VERY SLOW AND CAREFUL IN ORDER NOT TO BREAK PARTS OF THE FIGURE.
