Pears are trees that come from tropical climates in Western Europe, Asia and North Africa. Medium-tall tree, can reach 10-17 meters but some species are short trees that have dense leaves.

The leaves are alternate, broadly oval but can also be slender, lanceolate. Length between 2 to 12 cm. In some species, the leaves are shiny green or slightly hairy with a silvery color. Most trees shed their leaves in winter (deciduous) with the exception of two species of Pears in Southeast Asia which are evergreen.
