Born in Kyoto in 1936, Kohide Kato graduated from the Japanese Painting Department of Kyoto City University of Arts.

He later established a design studio and participated in various craft projects, while at the same time creating "frame paintings" with a unique touch.

His bold compositions based on black and white and his works depicting the four seasons in Kyoto in tranquility and gorgeous colors have earned him high acclaim.

He has also held solo exhibitions in New York and other cities, attracting attention from abroad.
