Moulin Rouge is a musical film directed by John Huston based on the 1950 novel of the same name by Pierre La Mure, dedicated to the biography of the artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The film, produced by John Woolf and James Woolf of Romulus Films, was released by United Artists. Cinematographer Oswald Morris, composer Georges Auric, Oscar-winning production and costume designers Marcel Verte and Paul Cheriff[de], and fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli.

The film stars José Ferrer (Toulouse-Lautrec and his father, Count Alphonse de Toulouse-Lautrec), Zsa Zsa Gabor (Jeanne Avril), Catherine Cat (La Goulue), as well as Suzanne Flon, Eric Pohlmann, Colette Marchand, Christopher Lee, Michael Balfour, Peter Cushing, Theodore Bickel and Muriel Smith.
