Up for this auction is a VERY RARE Byers Choice "CHOIR BOY", 1982, AUTHENTIC Bumpy Base WITH VISIBLE FINGERPRINTS ON SHOES, AUTHENTIC ORIGINAL GOLD FOIL LABEL STILL INTACT!  

From the historical source known as THE GUIDE TO COLLECTING BYERS CHOICE CAROLERS published by "JOHNNYCAKE FARMS COLLECTIBLES", 2001 Edition, THE CHOIR ADULTS & CHILDREN were produced as store exclusives for the Sturbridge Yankee Workshop ONLY in 1982.  Twelve (12) dozen of each were produced.  THIS CHOIR BOY IS ONE OF THOSE ORIGINAL TWELVE (12) DOZEN!  WHAT A FIND HE IS!!

Each child wears a red silk moire robe with a white linen overshirt with lace cuffs, hem, collar, & a black satin bow at the neck.  Each child carries a black song book.  This was the first time that Carolers were produced without a hat, which created some challenges for Byers Choice.  For the first time, hair was glued to the back of the head as well, which resulted is some very odd coiffures - especially on the boys!

The next year, 1983, Byers Choice chose to add only the Choir Children to the general line.  The Choir Adults were only produced in 1982, as stated above, & are quite valuable!!  The Choir Children continued to be produced in the general line from 1983 to 1986.  

Authentic Bumpy Base - Joyce Byers from the late 70's thru approximately 1982-83 hand formed the plaster of paris compound used to form the base of the Carolers. These pieces are the rarest to find & most valuable to collect!  From approximately 1982-83 thru the late '80's & even a few in the early '90's bases became "semi-bumpy" as she refined the process of making the bases - the mixture was still hand mixed & thus potentially still had a "bumpy finish".  

Many people will refer to a piece having a "bumpy base", but use caution --- dates may tell a different story! 

Since the early 1990's, the process has become more standardized --- the base ingredients more precise & tables with round molds are used to pour the mixture into - yet though even to present time, no two bases are ever "exactly the same".

This "CHOIR BOY" has been with us for more than thirty years & has been displayed infrequently.  He is in his ORIGINAL condition with an AUTHENTIC "BUMPY BASE" that is historically correct & in EXCELLENT CONDITION for the age.  The base displays the SIGNATURE ID of "BYERS 82" & the actual FINGERPRINTS from the Byers Choice artisan who formed the shoes in 1982.  A SMALL SIGNATURE IN TIME!!!

"CHOIR BOY", 1982, is in EXCELLENT condition & while he would make an outstanding addition to your own collection, he would also truly be a wonderful gift for any BC collector.

CONDITION

Many of my items are vintage & fairly aged; accordingly, there may some issues with individual pieces that are associated with the passage of time.  All of my Carollers have been displayed periodically since I have owned them.  Each piece is gently used & may exhibit minor glitter loss and/or paint anomalies due to the vintage quality of the item.  

I have looked each of them over to detect any major flaws. Any serious damage, fading or discoloration that I can perceive will be disclosed; however small flaws (i.e. imperfections in the glaze/paint, a slipped stitch, etc.) may be missed.

ALL OF MY BYERS CHOICE COLLECTIONS HAVE BEEN STORED ACCORDING TO INSTRUCTIONS DIRECTLY FROM THE BYERS CHOICE WEBSITE IN A TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT IN OUR SMOKE-FREE, PET-FRIENDLY HOME.

We only accept PayPal. Payment must be received within three (3) days of auction ending. If we have not received payment or a message requesting more time within the three (3) days, an unpaid item report will be filed.  We are always happy to help, so please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or issues.

SHIPPING

Any Caroler bought from us will be individually wrapped in tissue, bubble wrapped, & placed in a corrugated shipping box.  You will always receive the exact Caroler depicted in the photos.

I WILL COMBINE SHIPPING ON CAROLERS AS LONG AS I CAN DO SO WITHOUT JEOPARDIZING THE QUALITY OF THE CAROLERS.

Instructions for combining shipping:

1. Click "Add to Cart" for first item.

2. Click "Continue Shopping".

3. Click "Add to Cart" for next & any subsequent items until you are done shopping.

4. Once you add your final item to your cart (you should be in your cart & able to see all the items you have added), click the white button on the top right, just above the first item in your cart that says "Request Total From Seller".

5. Click the blue button on the bottom that says "Commit To Buy and Submit Request".

I will then send you an invoice through eBay with all your items, & the new shipping total.
