THE REMAINING MORTAL SCRAPS LEFT OF "EVILLENE", THE WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST, AFTER DOROTHY TOSSES WATER ONTO THE SCARECROW IN AN ATTEMPT TO DOUSE THE FIRE CONJURED BY EVILLENE WITH HER BROOM.

THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF OUR HALLOWEEN STAPLES, MAINLY AS A MANTLE DECORATION

Composed of resin, iron, & plastic, this witch's hat, as portrayed in the famous movie, The Wizard of Oz, is all that remains of the evil Wicked Witch of the West, Evillene, along with her boots & striped stockings.  This event occurs following Dorothy's fortuitous yet unforeseen splashing of water on Evillene’s face in an attempt to douse the fire Evillene had started on the Scarecrow's arm. 

You may wonder, as have I since I was a child, as to why water had such a catastrophic effect on Evillene, but with a bit of research, we can find the answer in good old paganism.  It’s a long-held superstition that witches & other malevolent supernatural entities couldn’t cross running water, which features in several stories of folklore around the world.

Of course, during the Salem Witch Trials, as well as the earlier Witch Trials in England & in other European countries, the relevant test of one’s actually wielding witchcraft was, of course, to drop the accused into water.  Floating = guilty; Drowning = innocence . . . I'd go for faking the drowning!

CONDITION

Many of my items are vintage or artisan; accordingly, there may be some issues with individual pieces that are associated with either the passage of time or the artisanal individuality of the item.   

I have examined each item to detect any major flaws.  Any serious damage, fading or discoloration that I can perceive will be disclosed; however small flaws (i.e. imperfections in the glaze/paint, slipped stitches, or pulled threads in the costume, etc.) may be missed.  

THERE ARE NO CHIPS OR OTHER CRACKS THAT HAVE OCCURRED DUE TO AGE OR ROUGH HANDLING.

ALL OF MY COLLECTIONS HAVE BEEN STORED IN A TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT IN OUR SMOKE-FREE, PET-FRIENDLY HOME.
