A set of two handmade MURANO VENEZIA ART GLASS CHAMPAGNE FLUTES, completely hand crafted & mouthblown on the small island of Murano, within the borders of Venice, Italy.

These stunning, functional works of art feature a slender, handcrafted open-winged swan at the stem enhanced with 24-karat gold flecking on the wings & body.  They are crafted by the talented Murano Glass artists & artisans’ embellishment of Modern-day Murano, Venice, Italy, & will take you straight into dreams of the legendary floating city that blinded visitors with the luxury of its glorious banquets, carnivals, & balls.  

The exceptional "MURANO VENEZIA GOLD-WINGED SWAN CHAMPAGNE FLUTES" presented in this listing harken back to the days of Roman & Byzantine glassmaking.  

There are many factors that determine the value & authenticity of Murano glass: Difficulty of design, size, & color are primary, but one of the most important is the source material.  techniques have high costs, such as gold-leaf layering & "flecking" which requires the use of 24-karat gold powder.

HISTORIC NOTE:  In an effort to restore the ancient glassmaking techniques & to recreate some of the beautiful Roman glassware, the glass artisans of Murano tirelessly experimented with chemical compositions, tools, & methods of hot glass workmanship for centuries until they achieved excellence & worldwide fame in the Middle Ages.

Murano Glass is created only on the island of Murano, located within the borders of the city of Venice in northern Italy.  Murano Glass is glass in the chemical sense of the word, but as different as the glass in your window panes as Rembrandt paintings are different from blank canvasses.

Murano wine & martini glasses, as well as the Champagne flutes, are among the most coveted stemware in the world.  The many methods of glassmaking result in unique combinations of light weight, unique design, & rich, translucent color with sometimes surreal patterns & shapes deserving to be labeled as functional works of art.  While beautiful glassware is produced in other places around the world, none of it has the history & artistic value as does Murano glass.

Murano Island in Venice is world-renowned for amazing art glass that has evolved from its humble beginnings into an art form over the centuries, & part of the reason is the sheer concentration of the many great artisans & the length of time they have been experimenting & creating their techniques & styles.  One of the oldest & most famous glassworks on Murano is Venini, the family that has given the world generations of talented Murano Glass artists.

The surprising part is that, the House of Venini has broken with the long-standing tradition of shielding the glassmakers' world from "outsiders" & is now serving as a learning site for artists from other countries who are eager to learn the secrets of Murano Glass masters.  Over the years, House of Venini has hosted, through the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, such prominent artists as Thomas Stearns, Dale Chihuly, & Richard Marquis, all of whom ultimately helped expand Murano's fame far beyond Italy.

I remember when we bought these glasses; it was from a gift shop that a good friend of ours had just opened, & we wanted to support his efforts.  When we showed up at his shop, he was SO excited to show us this glassware & explain to us why he was so pleased to be selling it.

CONDITION

Many of my items are vintage & fairly aged; accordingly, there may be some issues with individual pieces that are associated with the passage of time.  Each piece is gently used & may exhibit minor glitter loss and/or paint anomalies due to the vintage quality of the item.  

I have looked each of them over to detect any major flaws.  Any serious damage, fading or discoloration that I can perceive will be disclosed; however small flaws (i.e. imperfections in the glaze/paint, a slipped stitch, etc.) may be missed.

ALL OF MY COLLECTIONS HAVE BEEN STORED IN A TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT IN OUR SMOKE-FREE, PET-FRIENDLY HOME.
