Congressionally authorized United States Mint Bullion Coins provide investors with a convenient and cost-effective way to add physical gold, silver, platinum, or palladium to their investment portfolios. The American Eagle Bullion Coin Program was launched in 1986 with the sale of American Eagle Gold and Silver Bullion Coins. Platinum was added to the American Eagle Bullion Coin family in 1997 and palladium in 2017. In 2008, the American Buffalo Bullion Coin Program was introduced. The America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin™ Program followed in 2010.
American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins are available in four sizes: one ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce. American Eagle Silver, Platinum, Palladium, and American Buffalo Gold Bullion Coins are available in the one-ounce size.
The United States Mint, like other world mints, does not sell its bullion coins directly to the public. Instead, we distribute our coins through a network of official distributors called “authorized purchasers” who, in turn, create a two-way market buying and selling to precious metals wholesalers, private investors, and local bullion coin dealers.
This method provides effective and efficient distribution, which maximizes the availability of a two-way market of United States Mint Bullion Coins in retail markets and major investment markets.
United States Mint bullion coins are sold based on the prevailing market price of gold, silver, platinum, or palladium plus a small premium to cover minting, distribution, and marketing costs.
