STUNNING GEORGE IV. FINE QUALITY STERLING SILVER

TRAVELLING INKWELL - 1826

This is a superb top quality sterling silver travelling inkwell made (probably - maker's marks have been poorly struck) by Thomas Whitehead and was assayed in London in 1826. In square cubic form with reeded glass body it is depicted with a sterling silver top with an engine turned surface, raised reeded edge, and hinged cover secured by a decorative, wreath like, looped screw- to prevent spillage from its glass reservoir - all in perfect working order. There is a monogram to the lid top, while full hallmarks for the above maker and assay are struck to its surface, however the maker's mark, as I've said, has been poorly struck and is indistinct (although I’m confident the above maker is correct) – for all see photographs and details.

It measures 1 3/4" (4.5cm) Sq. approx; and is in excellent condition for a piece of its age, with only light wear to report, although its interior is a bit dusty, as is the outer grooves (with jewller's rouge - polish) residue, and it does need a polish - basically it just needs a clean and polish.

This is a really superb superior quality period Sterling Silver travelling inkwell that’s in excellent condition and should have a great appeal to all collectors.
