What does L-Glutamine do?

Glutamine could improve digestion by reducing intestinal permeability, aiding tight junctions, and promoting enterocyte growth (cells that line the intestines), ultimately strengthening the intestinal barrier (Perna et al. 2019).

In regard to the immune system, glutamine is the preferred source of fuel for enterocytes as well as lymphocytes (white blood cells), critical response cells of the immune system to infection (Rastgoo et al. 2021).

Lastly, glutamine may act as an anti-inflammatory agent by reducing interleukin 6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-ɑ), and C-reactive protein levels. It may also help produce glutathione, the body’s principal antioxidant (Arribas-López et al. 2019 & Perna et al. 2019).

Is L-Glutamine safe?

Yes, Glutamine typically has no adverse effects (Fuentes-Orozco 2021, Alsubaie et al. 2021 & Rastgoo et al. 2021). Even doses as high as 50–60 grams per day taken for several weeks are well tolerated (Arribas-López et al. 2019 & Garlick, 2001).

How do I use it?

We recommend consuming  5-10g of L-Glutamine daily. This can be taken in a single dose or spread across the day. Timing of consumption is not critical but we recommend just before a meal or just before sleep. Yes, this product is great for women as well!

I heard L-glutamine can help with sleep?

Yes! There has been a few studies demonstrating the L-Glutamine can increase your quality of sleep (Zaho et al. 2020). L-Glutamine has a calming effect and counteracts symptoms of stress and can be the key ingredient missing if you are feeling wired and can't relax or get off to sleep. It is the perfect natural supplement to take before bed to help you drift off to sleep.
