Bozhnik was embroidered on a narrow linen cloth up to 4 m long, decorated on one edge and along the ends. They were placed in such a way as to frame the icons from above and from the sides, but not to obscure the depicted faces. The ornaments of the towels for icons of the Mother of God, Jesus Christ, and saints varied and had rich symbolism.
