MTZ-2 is a brand of a wheeled general-purpose row-crop tractor produced by the Minsk Tractor Plant from 1954 to 1958 and by the Southern Machine-Building Plant from 1954 to 1958.
The first mass-produced Soviet wheeled universal tractor with pneumatic tires. Engine power 27.2 kW (37 hp), constructive weight of the tractor 3250 kg, maximum speed 3.78 m/s (13 km/h), number of forward gears 5, reverse - 1, specific fuel consumption 299, 2 g/(kWh). The tractor was not equipped with a cab. During operation, a number of shortcomings were identified that contributed to the complete transition to the production of his follower, the MTZ-5 tractor.
On October 14, 1953, the assembly of the MTZ-1 and MTZ-2 tractors, created according to the drawings of factory designers, was completed on the main assembly line of the Minsk Tractor Plant. Since 1954, serial production of tractors of this model was launched, which continued until 1958. The MTZ-1 model differed from the “two” by steered wheels close to each other and was intended to work with tall crops (corn, sunflower).
