Sikorsky S-55/H-19 Chickasaw is a multipurpose helicopter.
The helicopter was created by Sikorsky. The first flight was made in 1949. S-55 helicopters were purchased by the US Navy, the contract was signed on April 28, 1950. In the United States, more than a thousand S-55 helicopters of various modifications were built for military and civilian customers. Army variants in 1962 redesignated UH-19C and UH-19D. About 550 cars were produced under license - in France (by SNCASE), Great Britain (Westland Aircraft) and Japan (Mitsubishi).
Single-rotor helicopter of the classical scheme with a tail rotor. The fuselage structure is all-metal, aluminum-magnesium alloy monocoque. The engine is installed in the bow, which made it possible to expand the cargo compartment. Also, with this arrangement of the engine, the cargo compartment was close to the center of gravity of the helicopter, which had a beneficial effect on the range of permissible alignments during loading. The cockpit is located above the engine, the gearbox is behind the cockpit, the shaft is passed between the pilots' seats. Three-bladed main rotor, all-metal blades. Chassis wheeled, four-post.
