Vintage Replogle World Horizon Series 12" Rotating Globe on Axis Stand.
This is a VERY neat globe; but, it has some damage issues.
Please READ DESCRIPTION IN ITS ENTIRETY:
This does NOT have the LIGHT: I could not locate it.
The original light cord that is supposed to be with this didn't appear to be anything fancy. It seemed like any other inexpensive light bulb socket attached to a power cord with a rotating on/off wheel switch. I think it would be simple to replace.
Not having it was a sad surprise for me--I had it safely packed away in storage. I must have thought that taking it apart would keep it in better condition...
Anyway, I'll continur to keep a look out for it.
Also missing is the metal plate that goes on the top axis to secure the globe on the stand. The bottom of globe, I can't recall if it's a plate that also secures the globe to the bottom axis...see photos.
The top of the globe near the axis hole has some surface map paper missing--see photos of top axis.
The top globe where this surface map paper is missing feels slightly sticky--like it's the manufacturer's adhesive coming to
the surface.
Be careful when you take the globe out of its plastic bag so that it doesn't stick to the adhesive, causing more damage to paper surface at the top axis.
Also, there is a puncture in the globe near Morrocco--see photo.
The middle of globe where the seam is that holds the two halves together must be a sealant that created a clear gasket material to hold the halves together. . it has oxidized with age~ it looks a yellowish color--but, is intact and secure
Even after all of the mentioned concerns above, this is such a neat globe. It has the raised, Textured terrain all around it; a nice Key bar of the different terrains-- just a neat display of earth's topography.
The price reflects the concerns--please feel free to put in an offer, too.
I wish I had the skill to fix this model globe myself This would honestly be perfect for refurbishing It would look perfect in our home office/ study room.
