HMAS Farncomb Submarine Qualification Badge

The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) is the naval force of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). In the Royal Australian Navy Submarine Service, submariners who pass the qualification test are given a badge with two dolphins and a crown, known as the ‘dolphins’. This badge was first introduced in 1966. HMAS Farncomb (SSG 74) is the second of six Collins-class submarines operated by the Royal Australian Navy.

The Naval Board approved the introduction of a distinctive Royal Australian Navy, Submarine Qualification badge to wear by qualified HMAS Farncomb submarine personnel. This highly prestigious Dolphin’s badge is of gold-plated gilding metal in the form of a brooch depicting two dolphins’ nose-to-nose supporting a crown.
