Sterling Silver Tobacco Box - Antique Georgian

Description

This fine antique George I sterling silver tobacco box has a plain oval rounded form.

The surface of the box is plain and embellished with fine engraved circular motifs and leaf decoration to the cover hinge.

The flush hinged hallmarked cover is ornamented with the contemporary engraved inscription "Richard Smart" to the centre, in addition to a simplified engraved shell and scrolling leaf design to the shaped thumbpiece.

Condition

This antique Georgian tobacco box is a very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The engraved decoration is sharp, in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the interior of the base and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are very clear, in keeping with age; the maker"s marks have some wear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of early Georgian silverware.
