Beautiful antique and rare bronze medal of the first air trip to Macau, 7 April 1924 to 20 June 1924.
On April 7, 1924, the aviators José Manuel Sarmento de Beires (1892-1974) and António Jacinto da Silva Brito Pais (1884-1934), depart from Vila Nova de Milfontes (in Portugal), at the mouth of the Mira River, for an unprecedented adventure, two years after the crossing of the South Atlantic (Lisbon-Rio de Janeiro) by Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral.
After a very troubled journey, they reach the outskirts of the Chinese city of Macau on June 20 after covering 16,380 kilometers with various stopovers and using two planes, the "Fatherland" and the "Fatherland II", the first guaranteed in full by public subscription.
This medal was made by the notable portuguese sculptor Vasco Costa in 1974 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1st air trip to Macao 1924-1974.
Has 8 cm diameter, 4 mm thickness and weighs 211 grams.
