Cuban Sightseeing Tour [RF-101A Voodoo] Artist Proof Print Signed By Capt.Clyde East and Mike Machat

This art is Signed by a 'Double Fighter Pilot Ace'

This magnificent Cuban Sightseeing Tour [RF-101A VoodooArtist Proof Print Signed By Capt. Clyde East and Mike Machat is one of the most ‘historically important’ and colourful Limited Edition Art Prints you are ever likely to see and appreciate. It is by one of the USA's most acclaimed aviation artists and is stunning in its colour and representation of high-speed low-level flight in a dangerous combat zone to acquire the detailed reconnaissance pictures ordered by President John F. Kennedy.

Mike Machat is a master of capturing World Aviation events of significance. Upon Capt. Clyde B. East’s return to Florida the pictures were immediately analysed and flown to President John F. Kennedy in Washington D.C thus proving the Russians were off-loading Nuclear Missiles in Cuba.  For the following week in 1963, the World held its breath as the worst potential nuclear stand-off and Cuban missile crisis played itself out.

Importantly, each Cuban Sightseeing Tour [RF-101A VoodooArtist Proof Print Signed By Mike Machat is a 'historical art document in its own right’ magnificently countersigned by the Pilot Capt. Clyde East who displayed professional commitment and courage to carry out this mission at the time of the 'Cuban Missile' crisis when the World truly was on the brink of a nuclear conflict.

"More than History in a Lifetime, the 'ACES' were an extraordinary and significant part of the 20th Century as they created Mankind's Aviation history.  This 'truly' is a purchase for a lucky few to treasure."

Cuban Sightseeing Tour [RF-101A VoodooArtist Proof Print Signed By Capt.Clyde East and Mike Machat

Mike Machat's artistic jet research included flight experiences in numerous 'exotic' aircraft types.  Mike has flown with NASA, the Blue Angels, and the USAF Test Pilot School, and was the first Air Force Artist to fly in the Rockwell B-1B Lancer and Grumman F-14 Tomcat in a U.S. Navy exchange program.  Mike Machat's Art sells incredibly quickly.

Here are a few words about this fine art stunning Artist Proof Limited Edition Print by Mike Machat:

"On the morning of 4 November 1962, U.S Air Force McDonnell RF-101A Voodoos took off from McDill AFB, Florida to make photo verification flights over Havana, Cuba proving that Soviet missiles were being removed and returned to Russia after the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

This was the closest the world had ever come to nuclear annihilation.

Capt. Clyde B. East, a pilot from the 20th Tactical Recon Squadron, 363rd Tactical Recon Wing, is shown here overflying the docked Soviet freighters in Havana Harbor at 12:30 pm that day, skimming the ocean waves at 500 mph at an altitude of only 500 feet."

There were only 100 of Cuban Sightseeing Tour [RF-101A VoodooArtist Proof Prints Signed By Capt.Clyde East and Mike Machat made available for the Worldwide market, and each comes with its own Mike Machat signed Certificate of Authenticity [CoA]. The Limited Edition Print had a run of 1,000 Worldwide.

The incredibly beautiful Cuban Sightseeing Tour [RF-101A VoodooArtist Proof Print Signed By Capt.Clyde East and Mike Machat captures all the vivid color and brilliance of the original Mike Machat work of art.

The ‘hallmark’ of a Master Aviation Artist is in their ability to illustrate many different angles of aircraft in flight in their artwork.  The exceptional construct of this art is the ‘high-speed low pass' by Pilot Capt. Clyde B. East, of the 20th Tactical Recon Squadron, 363rd Tactical Recon Wing, capturing the critical moment when Capt. Clyde B. East penetrated the hostile airspace of another Country whilst on his reconnaissance mission to photograph the Russian freighter off-loading nuclear missiles in Cuba.

This stunning Cuban Sightseeing Tour [RF-101A VoodooArtist Proof Print Signed By Capt.Clyde East and Mike Machat is a important signed historical art piece for any collection.  It is a unique record of that 'highly charged political situation' between President John F. Kennedy and Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev in October 1962.

There were many iconic Aviation and Space events in the 20th and now the 21st Century that literally carved the future of the World that we have today!

Mission Profile (source Wikipedia)

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13-day (October 16-28, 1962) confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union concerning American ballistic missile deployment in Italy and Turkey with consequent Soviet ballistic missile deployment in Cuba. The confrontation is often considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war.

In response to the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion of 1961 and the presence of American Jupiter ballistic missiles in Italy and Turkey, Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev agreed to Cuba's request to place nuclear missiles on the island to deter a future invasion. An agreement was reached during a secret meeting between Khrushchev and Fidel Castro in July 1962, and the construction of a number of missile launch facilities started later that summer.

Clyde B. East was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia East longed to experience adventure in the military. At 19, he traveled to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to enlist in the Royal Canadian Air Force.

His first assignment took him to Europe, where he flew interdiction missions in the P-51A Mustang, attacking ground targets in France, Belgium, and Holland.

After his 26th mission, East transferred to the US Army Air Corps and was assigned as a 1st Lieutenant with the 15th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, 9th Air Force, one of the only American squadrons flying British Spitfires. East amassed about 200 hours in the Spitfire before the squadron took delivery of the venerable P-51B Mustang.

On June 6, 1944, East participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy in the Mustang. In this mission that East and his wingman stumbled upon several FW-190s landing and promptly dispatched them with their .50 caliber machine guns, claiming the first aerial victories of the invasion.

Becoming a confirmed ace in March 1945, East would go on to claim a total of 13 aerial kills against the German Luftwaffe in World War II.

East stayed with the US Air Force after the conclusion of World War II after amassing more than 350 hours of combat time and 200 combat missions. At the outbreak of the Korean War, East flew combat missions again in the RF-51D Mustang as well as the RF-80 Shooting Star.

Upon his return to the States he commanded several different tactical recon squadrons, one of which flew an additional 100 visual and photo missions over Cuba as ordered by President John F. Kennedy. He retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel in February 1965.

East was one of the most decorated fighter pilots during World War II. He was awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Air Medal with 36 Oak Leaf Clusters.

Collectors' Hints (Space and Aviation Firsts © 2017-2023).

Collectors' Hint 1 - What is an 'Artist Proof' Limited Edition Artist Proof Print?

'Artist Proofs' is a special early subset of the regular limited edition, limited to the first 10% of the print run.  An ‘Artist Proof’ is just that, an ‘Artist Proof’ and may or may not be numbered at the discretion of the Artist.  They therefore usually sell for 20-50% more than the regular edition print.

The 'Artist Proofs' are the first prints pulled off a fresh "stone", the plate which was drawn or etched by the artist to create the Limited Edition Canvas Prints.

A really serious Collector usually prefers the 'Artists Proof' if one can be obtained, because of the extra value they represent and the status they have in the market and as an investment.

Collectors Hint 2 - What is a 'Lithograph' Limited Edition Print?

Lithograph is a print created by running paper through a four-color press (red, yellow, blue, and black) making a full-color reproduction of an original painting in large quantities (usually 500-1,000).

If signed and numbered, it is a "Limited Edition" Print, and all materials and plates used in making the print are destroyed to ensure that the edition will never be reproduced again.

Premium Art - Limited Edition Prints utilising the Lithographic printing technique for very high quality provides 'Stand Out Impressiveness' upon your Wall.

Collectors Hint 3 - Acquisition of 'Rare' Historical Offerings!

I now try to obtain 'rare' offerings when they appear as I lost out on a few key Historical Pieces due to hesitating.

One was an X-15 photograph signed by 11 of the 12 surviving X-15 Pilots at the time, one being Neil Armstrong.  I have never seen a similar opportunity again during the past 25 years.  I suggest when an opportunity presents itself; please make the decision as to your collection focus and then act so you do not miss out!
