Joint Strike Fighter [JSF] Lockheed 'X-35' [F-35] and Boeing 'X-32' Artist Proof Print [A/P] 'Signed By The Entire 13 Test Pilots' and the Artist Mike Machat with Certificate of Authenticity [CofA]

Commissioned by the United States Air Force [USAF] this art Commemorates the Joint Strike Fighter [JSF] 'Fly-Off Program' between the Lockheed 'X-35' and Boeing 'X-32' which the Lockheed 'X-35' Won!

This art is one of the most important 'Historical Art Documents' of the early part of this 21st Century Signed by 'ALL of the Original 13 Joint Strike Fighter [JSF] Fly-Off Test Pilots and the Artist Mike Machat.

The Test Pilots were drawn from a mixture of the USA and UK Military Forces along with the International Aviation Manufacturing Companies; Lockheed Martin, Boeing and BAE Systems.

The X-35 was the "Genesis" of the F-35 which the RAAF F-35 No. 2 Operational Conversion Unit [OCU] now flies, and this is the resultant Commemorative "Artist Proof Print" of the F-35 Jet Flight Testing.

There were only 50 of these stunning Joint Strike Fighter [JSF] - Artist Proof Prints made available for the Worldwide market.

As you would expect, a number of these Artist Proof Prints have been acquired by Worldwide Corporations and Pilots and now you have this opportunity to also 'acquire' one of these Artist Proof Prints which are of Worldwide Historical Significance!

Each 'Artist Proof' comes with its own commemorative Mike Machat Signed Certificate of Authenticity [CofA].

The Joint Strike Fighter [JSF] program in 1999, was a Fly-Off competition between the Lockheed 'X-35' [F-35] and Boeing 'X-32' to replace the US Air Force's F-16, US Navy's F-18, and the AV-8B Harrier VTOL for the US Marine Corps and Royal Navy.

The X-35 won, and became the F-35 Lightning II to serve in the: USAF; RAAF; RAF; USN; Royal Navy and USMC

The Art is a beautiful depiction of the
  • Lockheed Martin X-35 [F-35] - 'First In-Flight Refuelling Flight Test' and the,
  • Boeing X-22 - 'First Supersonic Flight Test'.
Importantly, each Joint Strike Fighter [JSF] Lockheed 'X-35' [F-35] and Boeing 'X-32' Artist Proof Print [A/P] is a 'Historically Signed Aviation Art Document' in its right, featuring the Signatures of the representative Test Pilots who created 'Worldwide and '5th Generation' Aviation Fighter Jet history'!

Mike Machat is now a Retired Flight-Rated Senior Artist for the U.S. Air Force Documentary Art Program and an Internationally acclaimed artist for World, USA X-Plane Aviation and Space ‘historical events’.

Description

Joint Strike Fighter [JSF] Lockheed 'X-35' [F-35] and Boeing 'X-32' Artist Proof Print [A/P] 'Signed By The Entire 13 Test Pilots' and the Artist Mike Machat with Certificate of Authenticity [CofA]

Mike Machat's jet artistic research included flight experiences in numerous 'exotic' aircraft types.  Mike has flown with NASA, the Blue Angels, and the USAF Test Pilot School, and was the first Air Force Artist to fly in the Rockwell B-1B Lancer and Grumman F-14 Tomcat in a U.S. Navy exchange program.

Here are a few words about this fine art Limited Edition Print by Mike Machat:

"The plane types of the Boeing X-32 & Lockheed Martin X-35 were designed to combine several different tactical missions into one advanced aircraft, the Joint Strike Fighter, which will fly as an attack fighter for the U.S. Air Force, a carrier-based attack jet for the U.S. Navy, and a short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) attack aircraft for the U.S. Marine Corps.

Replacing aircraft like the A-10 and AV-8B Harrier, the newly-named F-35 Lightning II will also be flown by U.S. allies such as Great Britain and Australia.  In 2001, Lockheed Martin's X-35 won a fly-off competition beating Boeing's X-32 JSF demonstrator and both of these aircraft are represented in this historic lithograph which is personally signed by all 13 JSF test pilots assigned to the evaluation program."

The Test Pilot Counter Signers that were part of the 'JSF' program are:

Boeing X-32 Test Pilots:

    • Mr. Fred Knox, The Boeing Company
    • Lt Col Edward "Fast Eddie" Cabrera, United States Air Force
    • CDR Philip "Rowdy" Yates, United States Navy
    • Lt Cdr Paul "Stoney" Stone, Royal Navy
    • Mr. Dennis "Irish" O'Donoghue, The Boeing Company
    • MAJ Jeffrey "Pig Pen" Karnes, United States Marine Corp
Lockheed Martin X-35 Test Pilots:
    • Mr. Tom "Squid" Morgenfeld, Lockheed Martin
    • Lt Col Paul "Tall Paul" Smith,  United States Air Force
    • LCDR Brian "Goz" Goszkowicz, United States Navy
    • MAJ Art "Turbo" Tomassetti, United States Marine Corp
    • Mr. Simon Hargreaves, BAE Systems
    • Sqd Ldr Justin Paines, Royal Air Force
    • Mr. Joe Sweeney, Lockheed Martin

All Aircraft begin their production 'Life' in a 'Test Flight-Test Pilot' Program. The Lockheed-Martin X-35 [F-35] and the Boeing X-32 beginnings were more difficult with the Joint Strike Fighter 'fly-off' competition as a requirement.

The Lockheed-Martin X-35 won and became the 'F-35A Lightning II' which is the JET the:

  • Royal Air Force [RAF],
  • Royal Navy [RN] and
  • The Royal Australian Air Force [RAAF]
have acquired, in addition to the USAF F-35 Lightning squadrons.

This beautiful Joint Strike Fighter [JSF] Lockheed 'X-35' [F-35] and Boeing 'X-32' Artist Proof Print [A/P] captures all the vivid color and brilliance of the original Mike Machat work of art.

The ‘hallmark’ of a Master Aviation Artist is in their ability to illustrate many different angles and colours of aircraft in their flight element.  The exceptional construct of this art is the ‘in trail’ 3/4 views of the two Lockheed 'X-35' [F-35] and Boeing 'X-32' - Flight Test Firsts.

An important signed historical art piece for any collection.  It is a wonderful and unique record of a transforming and exciting time in World Aviation, X-Plane and 5th Generation Fighter Jet history.

There are already iconic Aviation moments in the 21st Century and the JSF 5th Generation Flight Test Program and making the F-35 operational into the Airforces of the World including the United States Air Force [USAF]; Royal Air Force [RAF], Royal Navy [RN] and the Royal Australian Air Force [RAAF] is certainly one.

Remember there were only 50 of these stunning Joint Strike Fighter [JSF] Lockheed 'X-35' [F-35] and Boeing 'X-32' Artist Proof Print made available for the Worldwide market, and each comes with its own commemorative Mike Machat Signed Certificate of Authenticity [CofA].

Mission Profile (source Wikipedia and RAAF)

The role of the No. 2 Operational Conversion Unit (No. 2 OCU) is to "support the preparation for and the conduct of effective airspace control, counter air strike and combat air support operations through the provision of trained personnel". Located at RAAF Base Williamtown, New South Wales, it comes under the control of No. 81 Wing, part of Air Combat Group.

No. 2 OCU is primarily responsible for conducting operational conversion courses on the RAAF's fifth-generation Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II fighter, which entered service in 2019. The unit takes students who have converted to fast jets with No. 79 Squadron, located at RAAF Base Pearce, Western Australia, and undergone lead-in fighter training at No. 76 Squadron, based at Williamtown. Most are new to operational flying, but some are experienced pilots converting from another aircraft type. No. 2 OCU's instructors are among the RAAF's most experienced pilots, and often play a major role in developing new tactics, in cooperation with fighter combat instructors at other No. 81 Wing units.

No. 2 OCU operates the F-35As, the conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) variant. It is the smallest, lightest version and capable of 9 g, the highest of all variants. The F-35A is largely identical to the B and C model, however, they have different capabilities such as (STOVL) and carrier operations respectively. Aircraft livery includes a white tail fin flash, the base featuring a tiger's head outlined in black, with a red mouth, white fangs and white eyes. The unit crest shows a winged kangaroo carrying a joey in its pouch, symbolising "'Mother Australia' flying with her young".

The motto is Juventus Non-Sine Pinnis ("The Young Shall Have Wings").

The F-35A Lightning II is the Royal Australian Air Force’s first fifth-generation air combat capability. It is a highly advanced multi-role, supersonic, stealth fighter which will meet Australia’s requirements to defeat current and emerging threats.

The F-35A is at the forefront of air combat technology.  Its advanced sensors and data fusion allow it to gather more information and share it with other Air Force aircraft, Navy ships and Army units quicker than ever before. This will greatly enhance the Australian Defence Force’s situational awareness and combat effectiveness. In addition, to greatly enhanced situational awareness, the F-35A provides its pilots with significantly higher levels of lethality and survivability in combat.

Australia has committed to 72 F-35A aircraft for three operational squadrons at RAAF Base Williamtown and RAAF Base Tindal, and a training squadron at RAAF Base Williamtown.

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat, single-engine, all-weather stealth multirole fighters. The fifth-generation combat aircraft is designed to perform ground attack and air superiority missions. It has three main models: the F-35A conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) variant, the F-35B short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL) variant, and the F-35C carrier-based Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery (CATOBAR) variant. On 31 July 2015, the United States Marines declared ready for deployment the first squadron of F-35B fighters. On 2 August 2016, the U.S. Air Force declared its first squadron of F-35A fighters combat-ready.

The F-35 descends from the X-35, the winning design of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program. An aerospace industry team led by Lockheed Martin designed and manufactures it. Other major F-35 industry partners include Northrop Grumman, Pratt & Whitney and BAE Systems. The F-35 first flew on 15 December 2006. The United States plans to buy 2,663 aircraft. Its variants are to provide the bulk of the crewed tactical airpower of the U.S. Air Force, Navy and the Marine Corps over the coming decades. Deliveries of the F-35 for the U.S. military are scheduled until 2037 with a projected service life up to 2070.

Collectors' Hints (Space and Aviation Firsts © 2017-2023).

Collectors' Hint 1 - What is an 'Artist Proof' Limited Edition Print?

'Artist Proofs' is a special early subset of the regular limited edition, limited to the first 10% of the print run.  An ‘Artist Proof’ is just that, an ‘Artist Proof’ and may or may not be numbered at the discretion of the Artist.  They therefore usually sell for 20-50% more than the regular edition print.

The 'Artist Proofs' are the first prints pulled off a fresh "stone", the plate which was drawn or etched by the artist to create the Limited Edition Canvas Prints.

A really serious Collector usually prefers the 'Artists Proof' if one can be obtained, because of the extra value they represent and the status they have in the market and as an investment.

Premium Art - Limited Edition Prints utilising the Lithographic printing technique for very high quality provides 'Stand Out Impressiveness' upon your Wall.
