Israel Putnam was an American military officer and landowner who fought with distinction at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He served later as a part of Rogers' Rangers during the French and Indian War, where he was captured by Mohawk soldiers. His life and military exploits have remained relevant through folk legends from the American colonies.
