An exceptional, fine and impressive set of six antique Edwardian English sterling silver buttons made in the Art Nouveau style - boxed; an addition to our dining silverware collection
Description
These exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver shank buttons have a shaped circular form.
Each hallmarked sterling silver button is ornamented with embossed decoration the profile of a young girl with flowing hair, with an interlacing scrolling leaf decorated background forming the shaped rim, all in the iconic Art Nouveau style.
The reverse of each double skinned, filled button is plain and unembellished, incorporating a simple shank; button shanks allows thread to be passed through a hollow protrusion/loop formed on the posterior surface.
These impressive antique silver buttons are fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, secured with a push fit catch.
Due to their large size of 40 lignes (40 L) it can be determined these buttons would typically be used for a coat or jacket; a button is commonly measured in lignes, with 40 lignes equal to 1 inch.
ConditionThese impressive antique silver buttons are an exceptional gauge of silver for their type, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The original presentation box is in excellent condition in keeping with age.
The embossed decoration is all very sharp.
Full British import hallmarks struck to the surface of each piece are all very clear.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique silverware.
