Raymond CALLEBAUT Original watercolor Haiti 1978, framed under glass, Two Haitian
Raymond CALLEBAUT was born in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1932. He studied for 7 years at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Mechelen, Belgium, where he won first place every year. For the next five years, he studied at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp under world-renowned painter Baro Isodor Opsomer and Riga-born teacher Miss Zarina. The city of Antwerp awarded him a scholarship to continue his studies in Italy and, on his return, Belgium's Round Table supported him for a whole year, enabling him to study at various famous art centers in France. Since then, Callebaut has traveled extensively in Europe and North America, spending considerable time painting and exhibiting in Spain, Portugal, Morocco and the United States, before settling in Toronto, Canada. At the end of 1970, he spent some time in Haiti, where he was inspired by Haitian scenes.
