This is plate 70 from a
vintage copy of "The Studio - Colour Photography and other Recent
Developments of the Art of the Camera" 1908 the British companion to
Camera Work, the American photo secessionist magazine published by Alfred
Stieglitz.
Born in Paris and educated in Dresden Adolph de Meyer was the son of a Jewish father and Scottish mother. He moved to London, joined the RPS and as a result of an advantageous marriage moved in high society circles. Famously he was described by Cecil Beaton as the "Debussy of Photography". He was a dedicated and skilled pioneer of the autochrome process from which this print is taken.
