Denmark's rich ceramics history began in 1775 at the founding of Royal Copenhagen, Denmark's official porcelain factory still going strong today, and historically famed for its delicate art like approach to pottery.

The production of Danish ceramics date back several hundred years. The Nordic country has constantly evolved its clay-based art and design techniques to pioneer distinctive works of ceramics. Celebrating this rich and varied history. For over 100 years Danish ceramic artists have negotiated the boundaries between decorative and functional objects and developed technical skills that utilise and manipulate the material possibilities of clay that are envied worldwide.

Einer Hellerøe was a gifted Danish designer and ceramicist. His daughter Jette Hellerøe (born 1940) also became a ceramist of repute after studying at the Copenhagen school of fine arts in 1960. She worked at her father’s factory before, during and after completing her degree. She also produced work under her own name at her studio at Haslev Keramik, founded by her father in 1940, located in Haslev, a town in the southern part of Sjælland/Zealand.

Einer Hellerøe’s designs are highly iconic and collectible. His works are sought after globally. Some are museum pieces and part and parcel of Danish pottery culture and tradition. His “Amazonas” pieces, designed in 1958, were well ahead of their time and over 65 years later they would not look out of place in a modern contemporary environment.

The esteemed firm of BR Keramik (BR Ceramics) was established in 1958 by Hjalmar Carl Rasmussen and Kristen Gert Carl Rasmussen. The business was located at Glosemoseve 12, 2600 Glostrup, Denmark.

In 1975, Kristen Gert Carl Rasmussen resigned from the company, and Hjalmar Carl Rasmussen continued as sole owner.

- In 1989 the company moved to Søvangsvej 1-5, 2650 Hvidovre.

- In 1994, the company changed its name to HJALMAR C. RASMUSSEN A/S. At the same time, the address changed to Bredegårds Alle 51, 2650 Hvidovre.

- Sadly Hjalmar Carl Rasmussen passed away in 2015, aged 98, and the company finally ceased trading in 2016.

BR Keramik never had its own production of ceramics. Einer Hellerøe and later Jette Hellerøe supplied ceramics to the company.

The pottery was marked with their signatures. Jette's pottery was often also labeled under her name.
