This offer is for One (1) NOS Original ADC RC398-DP which is an ADC K8C-DP cartridge mounted in a vintage ½ inch vintage headshell.
From
PhonoJacks!

This offer is for one (1) NOS, New Old Stock, ADC K8C-DP phono cartridge that is pre-mounted in a vintage ½ inch standard S- or J- Shaped Tonearm Headshell. This is the ideal choice for anyone doing a rebuild/refurbish of a 70s turntable. This ADC cartridge was designed in the 70s, it has features clean sound with just a little punch.

Some of you know that I had this horrendous move in February where we have too many boxes (at the destination) piled so high and deep that we can't even find everything that makes our business grow. Then we add 2 hours a day in additional commute time, as the jobs where we moved did not work out, so that's 10 hours less time a week that we could have been unpacking.
Recently, I uncovered 5 of the ADC RC398-DP combos (a RC398-DP is an ADC K8C-DP cartridge that is pre-mounted on a standard 1/2 inch headshell. I know for certain that there are at least 5 more, but it took months just to find these, so I don't have a clue when they will be available. I will list them when I find them. These are first come first served, if you want one, buy it now while it is available. Save up to 9% by buying multiples.

These items are still factory sealed (see sticker in the photos). The ADC K8 speaks for itself. This was the cartridge of choice for many first-time turntable owners in the early Technics days, but it was also sported by many early, mid and late 70s turntables by most major brands. Its sound was designed for American and British rock in that time, but this cartridge also sound awesome with mid-60s rock, and holds its own with the more electronic sounds of the 80s.
The cartridge is pre-mounted in the foremost holes on the vintage headshell (supplied). The advantage in doing this is it ensures L-R alignment, the left side of the stylus should contact as much grove as the right side of the stylus, because the screw holes are in alignment.
Some buyers of the RC398-DP (package of the K8C cartridge + the headshell) have complained that overhang can not be properly adjusted, since the foremost holes are set in position toward the front of the headshell. Look closely at the pictures, though! With this version of the headshell, there are half-inch parallel screw mounts just behind the foremost screw holes, where the cartridge can be slid into place to adjust overhang.

This item includes the following:
  • The Original Plastic Case
  • There is a sheet at the tonearm end of the headshell that I am assuming is specifications and might have operating instructions.
  • Original Mounting Screws (installed, they attach the cartridge to the headshell).
  • K8C-DP Phono Cartridge (installed in the headshell).
  • Vintage headshell, ready to plug into an S-or J- Shaped Tonearm.
Note this: The vintage headshell has a curved finger lift bar. Some other versions of the RC398-DP had straight (flat) finger lift bars. The curved bar is preferred, as it may lead to cleaner lifts when picking the tonearm directly off the vinyl. The "flat" types could lead to more damaged vinyl. I admit, it is a personal preference, and it is MHO. I have been selling turntables and turntable-related products since the 70s, so my humble opinion might have some value.

Notes (...if you already know one of the notes, feel free to skip to the next section...):
NOS means “New, Old Stock”. ADC unfortunately went out of business in 1985 (according to some sources) or possibly the early 90s. So, any ADC cartridges and styluses are either used, or NOS.

Original ADC K8-DP cartridges that are used have sold for $50.00. and higher, depending on the stylus that is included. The original ADC styluses for the K8 have sold for ~$35 and generic Pfanstiehl styluses sell ~$25.00. This Original ADC RC398-DP is an unused K8C-DP cartridge, complete with a NOS original ADC stylus, the original mounting screws and the stylus guard. I figure the cartridge is easily worth $60, the headshell, cartridge leads (~$10 if purchased separately) is worth $20, the stylus guard is also worth another $10, and you save the aggravation of having to install the cartridge to the headshell! From my point of view, this package should sell for around $100.00. I am listing these at a lower price, so if you want one, buy it now, while it is still available.
