Get to work:

planting - the soil for canola cultivation must be eutrophic or amended. good fertility is more important than fertilization when sowing. For the development of the plant's pivoting root system, there must be good conditions in the first layer of the soil, at a depth of between 20 and 40 centimeters. Uncompacted soil allows the root to deepen and thus makes the canola able to withstand dry weather. Planting in acidic soils and with toxic aluminum should be avoided, as in these conditions there is a loss of productivity and the crop loses tolerance to drought.

spacing - leave a space of 17 to 45 centimeters between the lines. It is worth mentioning that the shorter the distance, the more competitive the cultivation becomes in relation to invasive plants.

environment - canola is tolerant to dry weather and also to low temperatures and frost, as long as it is not exposed to these conditions during the seedling and flowering phase. high air humidity or frequent rains after flowering are harmful, as they favor the attack of diseases. during the plant's establishment phase, however, it requires good humidity.

care - the plant is rarely attacked by pests due to the presence of glucosinolate, a toxic substance present in the leaves and stems. however, the recommendation is to avoid sowing canola in heavily pestiled areas. The occurrence of diseases is related to conditions of high air humidity or frequent rain after flowering. however, in dry climate conditions there is no incidence of disease.

production - within 35 days of planting, the plant flowers and harvesting can begin in 85 to 90 days. When it is ripe, ready to be harvested, the crop has a light brown color. Due to ease and practicality, harvesting is mechanized. but in small areas, manual harvesting can be done, and the cutting must be done before full maturity to reduce losses due to threshing. Canola reaches 90 centimeters in height and has uniform maturation.
