Description: Fine old print of the people of the Great South Patagonia located in the part south of South America.

Patagonia mainly to the Southern Argentina over 1,140,532 km 2 , and southern Chile on 256 093 km 2 .
These two regions, separated by the Andes mountain range , home to varied landscapes of mountains , of glaciers , of pampas of forests sub polar of coasts , of islands and archipelagos .
Inhabited for over 10,000 years by South American Indians such as the Mapuche , the Tehuelches or Selknams these lands were described for the first time by the Italian Antonio Pigafetta in his account of the first world tour of the Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan published in 1525.

Cartographer/mapmaker Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 21 March 1772)
Bellin was born in Paris. He was hydrographer of France's hydrographic office, member of the Académie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London. Over a 50 year career, he produced a large number of maps of particular interest to the Ministère de la Marine.

Engraved by Jakob van der Schley aka Jakob van Schley a Dutch engraver. He studied under Bernard Picart.
Most of the plates in the Dutch edition of Prévost's "Histoire générale des voyages" are signed by van der Schley.
