Ernest “Zach” Zacharevic has animated cities around the world with whimsical murals and installations depicting children at play. Throughout his compositions, kids ride origami animals, disguise themselves among a family of birds, and climb out of painted-on windows. Zacharevic often integrates three-dimensional objects such as bicycles, planks of wood, and doilies among his painted figures, allowing his compositions to leap off the wall and into the streets. With their interactive illusions, these works encourage pedestrians to pose as part of them, provoking the same childlike curiosity captured in the scenes themselves. Zacharevic has painted public works in Singapore, Miami, New York, Lisbon, Dubai, and Kuala Lumpur, among other cities. He also maintains a fine art practice that encompasses paintings and prints, which he has exhibited globally. Moving freely between the street and the gallery, Zacharevic erodes the line between high and low art.
