 Two unique books on needleworking, sewing, fashion, and textile arts by Mary Brooks Picken (1886-1981). Picken was the founder of the Woman's Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where she taught women sewing and fashion techniques, and published her over 96 books. An extremely accomplished woman in her industry; Picken taught a course called the 
"Economics of Fashion" at Columbia University, went on to become one of five founding directors of the Metropolitan Museum of Arts " Costume Department, and finally was named a trustee of NYU's Fashion Institute of Technology.
