The personality of Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky has always had a touch of mystery: in the Soviet years he was romantic and heroic, and after that he was unanimously hated, demolishing monuments and accusing him of creating the repressive machine of the USSR. “Iron Felix” is a legendary personality. This man did not fade into oblivion, he left a deep mark on history, acting in various capacities: a courageous romantic revolutionary who spent many years in prison, the creator of the country’s main intelligence service, the “first security officer” who participated in the development and conduct of complex intelligence and counterintelligence operations . As a revolutionary, he led active preparations for the October Revolution. During the revolution of October 25, he led the seizure of the Main Post Office and Telegraph. During the October period, he was commandant of the main headquarters of the revolution - the Smolny Palace. He is remembered for his fanatical devotion to the ideas of the revolution, for the defense of which all methods are good - including the Red Terror.
In addition, Felix Edmundovich struggled with homelessness. As chairman of the commission, Dzerzhinsky organized a system of children's institutions - reception centers (temporary stays), orphanages, "communes" and children's "towns". In these institutions, thousands of disadvantaged children received medical care, education, nutrition, and most importantly, the opportunity for further self-realization. On the basis of the Dzerzhinsky commune (headed by A.S. Makarenko), a whole enterprise was created where teenagers worked, creating one of the most modern cameras for those years called “FED”, that is, the first letters of his name, patronymic and surname. F. E. Dzerzhisky was involved in the creation of Artek. He initiated the creation of the voluntary sports society "Dynamo", led the restoration of transport, the metal industry and the entire industry of the country. In Soviet times, the name of Dzerzhinsky was given to cities and villages of the USSR, a number of factories and factories, ships and other objects. His name was given to streets and squares, schools and institutes. Monuments and busts of “Iron Felix” appeared on city streets.
