One evening aunt Fira, (dad’s sister) came in tears.
“What happened?”
“Ana taken”
I was quickly escorted out of the room. As
a rule, any bad news, was not permitted to hear for me. But that time I
laid on the floor and leaning my ear against the gap, I heard
everything.
Ana (such strange woman name, for men) was cousin of David (aunt Fira
husband). Ana worked in Sewing Factory. I saw him several times on aunt
Fira birthdays. He was short and fat like colobok and very genial. He
always flung my eddies and quietly spanked my butt. David also was a
tailor he worked in the small sewing shop and occasionally he got some
order to work at home (In Russia it call “haltura” / private business).
It
was shortage of everything every day needs. Spoon; shoes; watches;
pillow; pan. Once he repaired some woman dress and he needed red thread
to sew button. He asked Ana, and he brought spool of thread from factory, David sewed on a button and
next day Ana return thread to factory. Somebody saw this and reported
to high authority. At 3 o'clock in the morning the truck with the
inscription "Bread" came to the house of Ana, the KGB officers knocked
Ana’s door and took him for questioning. It was time, how people called
it “Zakon o koloskax” / “law on spikelet” when people got 10 years if
they collect single grain from earth after it was harvested.
Aunt Fira again burst into tears: “If Ana will say that the thread
was for David, David will be also taken.” She was comforted as she
could, but what my parents can say?
Ana did not say anything about David, and Ana get 10 years without the
right to correspondence. Visits of Ana’s wife to her husband was not
allowed. She got only “the conclusion of the Judicial Commission: "10
years of strict regime for embezzlement of State property in especially
large amounts".
Only in 1956 the wife was informed of the death of her husband (in 1949 y.)

and at least one Communist. Also need to pass political exam (mostly to
know all Communist Party Leaders of other countries and advantage of
Socialism over Capitalism)
