In good condition. Dark green cloth boards are scuffed at edges and worn/bumped at corners. Gilt lettering and ruling rubbed in some places, but mostly bright and clean. Heads and tails of spines collapsed. Vol. III's front gutter is beginning to split, binding mesh exposed. Vol. II includes ex-library plate from American Psychiatric Museum Association Library on front paste-down. Vol. I exhibits ex-library ink stamps on front paste-down & end-page: Professional Library Ridge School & State Home and Training School for Mental Defectives. Toning throughout all text-blocks, some instances of finger-soiling. Water dampness staining to fore-edge of text-block of Vol. I (throughout 35 pp). All plates present, clean, and intact. Henry Mills Hurd (1843-1927) was the first director of the Johns Hopkins Hospital and remained in that post for 22 years following which he was appointed Secretary to the Board of Trustees. He was also the first Professor of Psychiatry at the medical school from its opening in 1893 until 1905.
