A magnificent, fine and impressive, large Victorian English sterling silver presentation bowl made by Elkington & Co Ltd; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection
DescriptionThis magnificent Victorian English sterling silver bowl has a circular rounded form onto a circular pedestal spreading foot.
The large body of this sterling silver bowl is encircled with an applied moulded girdle, above the contemporary bright engraved crest of a wheat sheaf.
The upper portion of the body is further ornamented with an exceptional cast and applied scene depicting warrior style characters preparing for combat; it can be determined that such a frieze of figures relates to a historical event or folklore.
The lower portion of the bowl is embellished with impressive fluted decoration.
The plain rim of this Elkington & Co silver bowl is encompassed with an applied moulded border.
This bowl is fitted with two large cast sterling silver handles, embellished with exceptional spiraling foliate decorated terminals and ribbed handpieces.
The circular domed, spreading foot is encompassed with an impressive broad chased egg and dart decorated border.
This magnificent bowl is the finest example of its type you could hope to locate.
ConditionThis large sterling silver bowl is a magnificent gauge of silver, magnificent quality and in magnificent condition.
The chased and applied decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved heraldry is very crisp; it can be determined this piece has seen little to no use.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the magnificent gauge of silver.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Victorian silverware.
