Buck to a fan who had expressed sympathy for her in the wake of the Philadelphia magazine article of that year which first drew attention to the dubious behavior of Theodore Harris, the business manager and executive at the Pearl S Buck Foundation. Buck defended Harris but never quite recovered from the scandal. Buck here references "the unjust and untrue attack of that smut magazine in Philadelphia." On letterhead printed with her address in Perkasie, Bucks County, PA.
