Rare stunning vintage 1900 lithograph of Art Nouveau book cover designs.

Exceptional quality rare vintage lithograph from a vintage folio of design plates from “The Art Decorator – Designs in Colours for Art Workers” published from 1890-1914 by Grevel & Co, London. This is the English edition of German “Dekorative Vorbilder”

Lithographs printed in Stuttgart. A copy of the 1907 edition is held in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

The work was intended to assist the amateur and the decorator, by producing designs which could be copied, enlarged, or adapted. These designs are very varied including exceptional examples of classical, Renaissance and Art Nouveau styles. Some are transcripts from the works of the great masters of the Renaissance, Italian, French, and Dutch; others are from the studios of contemporary Artists. They include examples suitable for mural decoration, for tapestry, for modelling and wood carving, for illumination of manuscripts and bookbinding, for repousse, inlaid work, and ceramic design.
