"Between 1934 and 1984 are the Golden Days- Over fifty years of diverse production of successful American dinnerware were generated from the California giant Gladding, McBean and Company. The colorful, sometimes playful, sometimes elegant ware was a true American success story.

Desert Rose was a truly American, distinctly Western, maybe even purely California design. Desert Rose was groundbreaking in its use of wild, rugged, new design element when introduced in 1941. Its bramble appearance paid no respect to European floral tradition. Presented a little more than a year after the Apple pattern, it was Desert Rose that would prove to be "the most popular pattern ever made in America." -"Franciscan - An American Dining Tradition"
