This is a beautiful original antique Japanese Shibayama lacquered wall hanging wood panel artwork.

Hand made with pieces of carved bone and mother of pearl pieces, the scene depicts 2 Japanese ladies wearing Kimonos carrying parasol style sun shades. They are walking on a hillside underneath a large branch of a cherry blossom tree.

The ladies heads, hands, feet and waist ties are made of carved pieces of bone. The tree branch, leaves, cherry blossom flowers, rocks and the butterfly are made of carved pieces of Mother of Pearl.

It also has some background detail painted on it in gold paint (i.e the hillside and foliage).

The detail on this piece is incredible! Carved with such precision, you can see the features of the ladies faces and hair. You can also see the delicately carved patterns on their clothes. Although the maker is known, he/she was obviously a very skilled and talented artist!

The panel has recently had its original gold braid replaced with new gold braid around the edge. The original braid had massively deteriorated.

The panel measures approximately 30cm (12") long x 21cm (8") wide.

There is a brass hook on the back ready to hang on the wall.

Condition: a couple of light and minor surface scratches and a slightly bumpy surface in places, otherwise in great condition. All the pieces of the picture are intact.

This is a really lovely piece which is perfect for any lover and collector of antique Japanese art.
