Presented for BUY IT NOW or BEST OFFER is an original Japanese Samurai short sword classified as a Tanto. It is mounted in a Shirasaya or resting case. The saya is signed. A collector translated it as follows: Yamato Yukihira saku + kao. The blade is a Hira Zukuri style. Overall the blade is in good condition. There is some light pitting in areas. Also please view photos of blade to see a small open area (kizu) on one side of the blade along the middle of blade towards the hamon (temper line) above the sharp edge. This flaw is a natural occurrence in the forging process of the steel and sometimes occurs when swordsmiths repolish the blade when maintaining the blade. Many ebay sellers would not point this out but I want to give an honest description so there are no surprises when your item arrives. The tang is unsigned. See photos of both sides of the tang. Wavy temper line is visable, see photos. Overall the entire blade measures approx. 16" with the blade measuring approx 11 9/16". The wood saya overall measures approx. 19 3/8" in length. The Habaki is copper. Overall a nice example of a true Japanese blade for any collection. Let's start this piece at a fair price and let the collectors determine the true value.
