V2047 Antique Tibetan Bronze Mahakala Mask Incense Burner Censer

Mahakala is one of the most popular guardians in the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon.  He is the raging form of the gentle Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, the deity for infinite compassion.

This incense burner sits on 3 legs with intricate scrollwork and stone settings on the crown, eyes and forehead.  This piece was part of a private collection in New York City for two generations.  It is from the early 1900’s.  Has been in my private collection since the 1980s.

Its condition is very good for its age.  5.5” x 6.5” x 2.5” tall on tripod.

I have been a collector for over 60 years and have spent this time searching for the most unique, wonderous and culturally-significant pieces from far off places like Africa, Middle East, South & Southeast Asia, Central & South America and the Oceania Islands.  Most were acquired from the country of origin and/or from avid collectors.  All that I know about the item - through provenance or my own research - is shown in the listing.  It’s now time for me to thin out my collection. I am sure you will enjoy this item and its history as much as I have.
