QUALITY ART PRINT
IDEAL FOR LOVERS OF FINE AUSTRALIAN ARTWORKS - A GREAT ADDITION TO ANY WALL
Tom Roberts, 1856-1931
'In a Corner on the MacIntyre' 1895
Also known as 'Bushranging: Thunderbolt at Paradise Creek' this reproduction art print of a classic painting by Tom Roberts depicts the bushranger Captain Thunderbolt on the run in the New England ranges of NSW. Roberts painted the scene during his time living on the Newstead sheep station.
Born in England, Roberts migrated to Melbourne in 1869. He studied art and travelled to Europe in the 1880s where he mastered the impressionist technique. Back in Australia he joined with Frederick McCubbin to establish the Heidelberg School in rural Victoria. In 1891 the group, now including Charles Conder and Arthur Streeton, set up at Mosman in Sydney. In the 1890s he painted some of his most famous works and, in 1901, was commissioned to paint the opening ceremony of the new Commonwealth Parliament, an onerous task that gravely affected his health. In World War I he served with the Australian medical corps before returning home in 1923.
