Books: Cherry red flexible soft leather with gilt titling and floral decoration on spine; circular gilt emblem on front. Covers are lightly scuffed and rubbed; several lightly bumped corners. A bit of fraying at tip and tail of spine. Top edges are bright gilt.  Endpapers with bordering and floral designs, clean, no marks. Hinges and binding square and tight, no loose pages. Text pages clean, no marks. Volumes include tables of contents at the rear (see photos). Both books have an introductory biographical essay by Frederik Vetterlund. No study of Swedish literature would be complete without including these contemporaneous 18th century poets and these are handsome additions to any collector's library.

VALDA DIKTER OCH PROSASTYCKEN by Johan Henrik Kellgren. 160 p. Kellgren (1751-1795) was an important poet of Sweden's Enlightenment. He wrote a number of versa dramas and remains known for "Gustaf Wasa," (1786) a successful patriotic opera and "Den Nya Skapelsen" considered his greatest poem, both included in this volume.

VALDA SKRIFTER by Bengt Lidner 157 p. Swedish poet Lidner (1757-1793) is most known for his 3-act opera, "Medea," which was translated to English and played in England during his lifetime (included in this volume).
